Ingredients for the filling(serves 16!):
1 package Publix "Rich and Flaky" pie dough (in the fridge section near butter and Pillsbury
3 lbs Macintosh apples
1/2 tsp orange zest
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp allspice
8 tbsp unsalted butter (1 stick)
~~ Preheat the oven to 450. Put the dough out and when at room temperature, roll out each pastry on a parchment lined baking sheet. Peel, core, and slice the apples, and then toss with zest. Divide the apples between the two doughs, leaving a 1 1/2 inch border. Combine the flour, sugar, salt, and spices into the food processor. Add the butter and pulse until the mixture is crumbly....sprinkle over both doughs. Gently fold the borders over the apples, pleating to make a circle (the borders won't reach the middle/cover the whole thing). Bake for about 20-25 minutes, or until the dough is golden and the apples are tender....cool for 5 minutes before serving - with vanilla bean ice cream of course!!!
